TIM LAVERY FRCGS

Founder, Award-winning Program Manager and Project Coordinator, EdTech & STEM in Education Specialist. Experienced Tutor for teacher CPD and Technology in Schools
Project Manager with 30+ years experience working for a wide variety of clients including rural communities, government, NGOs and international businesses.

Various contracts include STEP FAEWE Floodplains Project (EU) which spanned several years and the identification to species level of over 250,000 insects; Specialist Entomological Studies including Status of Species in EU Habitat Directive for the Irish Government.

In 1985 he founded Country Watch Ireland, an environmental awareness  and educational organisation which still operates to this day. He published Ireland’s first dedicated environmental news Magazine (Irish Environment News/IEN). IEN published the first review of the conservation status of Irish Butterflies and worked to promote the activities of Ireland’s voluntary environmental organisations including the IPCC and Crann when they were just fledgling organisations.
 
Over the years Country Watch has developed a reputation for its public engagement and awareness activities. Tim has earned numerous Awards for his contribution to invertebrate conservation and awareness including three Resource Ireland Awards, several Environment Awareness Awards, Local Hero Award and most recently was an Inspired IT Awards winner.
 
In 1989, the European Commission and the Department of the Environment (Ireland) acknowledged him for his “outstanding contribution to Environmental Awareness”. The Royal Irish Academy has awarded him the prestigious Lloyd-Praeger Grant for research in Ireland on numerous occasions over the past three decades. 
 
Always at the cutting edge of his field, back in 2008, Tim developed with partners Microsoft, a world first education project that saw a group of Irish Secondary School students being the first to participate in real-life scientific research on the Antarctic Peninsula while broadcasting live results using nascent streaming services over BGAN Satellite comms.

In January 2011 he launched the World Explorers Bureau, an agency representing some of the world's most accomplished, exciting explorers, adventurers and scientists with offices in Ireland, China and US. In June 2014 Tim received acknowledgement from Radio Kerry for developing this innovative business with a Radio Kerry Business Award
 
In 2014 he launched, edited and published in cooperation with industry partners, the Ripcord Adventure Journal, dedicated to publishing authentic adventure travel articles, which has had over 12 million views. 

In the wake of school closures due to COVID in 2020, Tim launched Exploring EdTech, the first digital magazine dedicated to education technology in Ireland, curating, reviewing and rating EdTech solutions, and providing a shared teachers resource toolkit, aimed at primary and second-level teachers, leaders, and management.

Tim is Ireland’s only certified Intel Master Tutor, a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIEE 2021/22), and has completed 47 Microsoft Education badges, with considerable experience in Google Classroom, Canva, Adobe products, Office 365 and Teams. Tim is also a fully accredited Journalist (Press Card carrying member of the National Union of Journalists), Tim regularly attends news and press launches related to EdTech, Science and Education, has written numerous articles and regularly contributes to various social media and News aggregates.

Elected as a Fellow to the Royal Entomological Society, Royal Geographical Society, the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the Linnean Society of London.
